Ten years in the air

I fly the shot
nobody else can get.

It started with a toy drone from a hobby shop. Then a very plastic FPV build with so much jello it was almost unwatchable — but by then it was too late. I wasn’t watching a drone fly. I was flying.

Ten years, one scratch-built FPV quad and plenty of crashes later, I got my RPC and registered my DJI Avata 2 so I could do this properly — legally, insured, and for a living.

I’m Jaco, based in Gqeberha. As well as flying, I’m a cinematographer and video editor, so I’m happy on the sticks, behind a camera on the ground, or in the timeline afterwards. The kit

DJI Avata 2

Ducted props mean I can fly it through a doorway, past a person, or a hand’s width from a product without putting anyone at risk. It goes where a Mavic legally and physically cannot.

Registration: ZT-001709 — registered with the CAA and flown on the books
Airframe: Ducted unibody — safe within arm’s reach of people and product
Camera: 4K/60 fps HDR, 10-bit D-Log M for a proper grade
Lens: 155° ultra-wide — the FPV look, not a hovering tripod
Control: Full manual FPV. Gaps, dives and one-take fly-throughs

Plus a full ground cinematography kit for everything that doesn’t need to leave the floor.

Flown legally,
every single time.

It’s worth knowing who’s flying over your site. Everything here is licensed, registered and above board — which means your shoot is covered, and you’ve got one less thing to worry about on the day.

Remote Pilot Certificate

Trained and certificated to fly commercially — not a hobbyist taking paid work.
Operating under a UASOC

Flights run under a holder’s Operating Certificate, which is what makes commercial work lawful in South Africa.
Registered aircraft

The Avata 2 carries registration ZT-001709, and is flown inside its approved envelope every time.
Permissions handled

Airspace, landowner and venue permissions are my job, so you don’t have to think about them. And if a site can’t be flown legally, I’ll let you know upfront rather than on the day.
